Volunteer

Your talents are needed to keep TIC vital. Every TIC volunteer is provided a complete training program, and most had little experience reading aloud before joining the Center.

Volunteer readers come from
every part of society, every age group and walk of life. You can help the print disabled keep in touch with the world around them by being a volunteer reader for the Talking Information Center. When you lend your voice to TIC, you'll be sharing information with thousands of people throughout Massachusetts in a unique and rewarding way.

Join us at our facility in Marshfield or at participating radio affiliates in other parts of the state.

Your first 'job' for TIC will be to p
roduce a short audio demonstration for review by the staff. This is necessary to determine whether you have the readings skills and technique to make your experience at TIC rewarding and enjoyable for you and for the audience. This takes place in one of our five recording booths.

Read on the Air

You may do some of your work 'live' in our newspaper studio. If you are reading live, you have no equipment to worry about. You just need to position yourself comfortably and properly at the microphone and we'll handle all the engineering.

Your work at TIC could include more work in the recording booths as you pre-record programs for later broadcast. At TIC in Marshfield, we have a state-of-the-art facility and all programs are recorded on computers and stored on our main broadcast server where our sophisticated automation system takes over to play the programs in the proper order at the right time.

Other Opportunities

There are a variety of roles you can fill at TIC. In addition to reading, we have committees that work on fund-raisers like our annual golf tournament, annual wine tasting dinner and annual radio auction. We have an active Speakers Bureau that works hard to "get the word out" about our service. And of course there is always office work to be done and phones to be answered.

We want you to keep a very im
portant thought in mind as you begin your work here at TIC. You are not "just a volunteer" you are a very important unpaid member of our staff. Contact us today, and volunteer your time!
